Block House Hill was the site of a block house during the French and Indian War. Across this way stood the home of Capt. Shimer. The end of the Jersey City-Milford Turnpike lay one mile south. The Brick House, built in 1776, stood one and one-half miles south. Minisink Church, built in 1737, had a marker on the right just south of the Brick House.
