Watson Farm in Jamestown, Rhode Island, was established in 1789 when Job Watson bought part of the farmland, beginning a family connection that lasted through five generations. For more than two centuries, the Watson family kept the farm working by adapting crops and methods to changing markets. Its continuity remains visible in the 1796 house, which still serves as the farmers’ residence. The farm remains an active agricultural property, producing food and fiber through livestock, hay, compost, and a large vegetable garden. Owned by Historic New England, it also hosts a summer CSA farmer’s market and continues to play a living role in local agriculture.
