Gallon House Bridge is a wooden covered bridge spanning Abiqua Creek in rural Marion County, Oregon, near Silverton. Built in 1916, its 84-foot span is one of the historic covered bridges that still survive on Oregon’s back roads. Its distinctive name is tied to the Prohibition era, when local tradition held that bootleggers and moonshiners used the site as a meeting place, connecting the bridge to the informal liquor trade of the countryside. The bridge also endured the December 1964 flood, which swept it from its footings, but it was restored soon afterward, preserving it as both a functioning crossing and an example of early-twentieth-century regional bridge building.
