Mount White is a prominent 13,667-foot peak in central Colorado’s Sawatch Range, rising steeply in Chaffee County within the San Isabel National Forest. Visible from Highway 285, it is the 169th-highest mountain in Colorado and towers more than 2,450 feet above Browns Creek within a mile, creating striking local relief. Water from its slopes drains through Browns Creek to the Arkansas River. The mountain is also important for its mineral resources: together with nearby Mount Antero, it is a notable source of aquamarine, Colorado’s state gem, and topaz is also found there. Its high elevation gives it an alpine subarctic climate with snowy winters and summer thunderstorms.
