Mount Sunapee Resort, in Mount Sunapee State Park in Newbury, New Hampshire, developed from state plans in the early 1940s for a tramway inspired by Cannon Mountain, but after World War II a chairlift was built instead. The ski area expanded through the 1950s and 1960s, added snowmaking in 1982, and by 1998 entered a new era of private leasing under the Mueller family, with investment focused on lifts, snowmaking, and lodges after larger expansion plans stalled. Vail Resorts acquired it in 2018. Today it is a four-season recreation center with extensive ski terrain, lodges, warm-weather attractions, seasonal events, and nearby lake access.
