West Canada Lake Wilderness Area is a protected part of New York’s Adirondack Park Forest Preserve in the central Adirondacks, valued for its remote character, dense forest, and exceptional abundance of water. Its varied landscape includes swampy flats, rolling hills, steeper mountains such as Snowy Mountain, streams, wetlands, beaver meadows, and 168 ponds and lakes covering about 2,400 acres, much of it supporting brook trout. Mixed hardwood and softwood forests grow across the area, with extensive spruce-balsam swamp as well. Important backcountry destinations include T Lake Falls, T Lake Mountain, Panther Mountain, the Cedar River, and West Canada Creek, while trails and lean-tos make it a major hiking, camping, angling, and wilderness travel destination.
