During the Great Depression and the Roosevelt Administration, the Civilian Conservation Corps provided employment for thousands of deserving men. Company 810 came to Stapp, Oklahoma, from Fort Sill on May 24, 1933. The men slept in eight-man army tents until late 1933, when they moved into forty-man barracks. CCC Company 810 built Cedar Lake area parks and Forest Service roads, fought fires, planted trees, and improved conservation practices in the Ouachita forests. Because of their work, what is now the U.S. Forest Service Cedar Lake Recreation Area and numerous other area facilities are still enjoyed by the public today.
