State Road Covered Bridge carries a road over Conneaut Creek in Monroe Township, Ashtabula County, and is one of the county’s 17 drivable covered bridges. The current single-span Town truss bridge was built in 1983, replacing an earlier covered bridge erected there in 1831 by Ira Benton and David Niles that stood until 1898. Its 1983 dedication helped launch the Ashtabula County Covered Bridge Festival, tying it to a major local tradition. Built of southern pine and oak, the bridge is distinguished by a continuous window band that lights the interior while maintaining the enclosed character typical of covered bridges.
