Mount Nancy, a 3,926-foot peak in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, is the highest summit of the Nancy Range on the edge of the Pemigewasset Wilderness and is counted among the New England Hundred Highest. Though officially trailless, it is commonly reached from Norcross Pond. The mountain was once called Mount Amorisgelu, but its current name comes from Nancy Brook and a regional legend about a young woman named Nancy who, in the autumn of 1788, crossed thirty miles of trackless snow searching for the farmer she was to marry and died near the brook. The summit also divides waters flowing toward the Gulf of Maine by the Merrimack and Saco systems.
