Hodgen's Cemetery Mound in Tiltonsville, along the Ohio River in eastern Ohio, is a Native American burial mound that survives within a later village cemetery. This round, cone-shaped earthwork was enclosed by nineteenth-century burials before its ancient purpose was recognized. Erosion later exposed human remains, including a skull with artificial cranial deformation, linking the mound to the Adena culture, who lived in the region between 500 BC and AD 500. Though never excavated, the site is archaeologically important because such high-status Adena burials often contained significant grave goods. Despite some disturbance from modern graves, the mound retains its form and may still hold undisturbed contents.
