Lewis Norton first settled the area in 1830, followed by Alonzo Sibley in 1831 and Alijah Wixom in 1832. Sibley built an impressive home opposite this site and donated land to establish a cemetery and church. The area became known as Sibley's Corners. The coming of the railroad changed the Village name to Wixom Station and brought prosperity. Businesses flourished and Wixom was thought in the 1870's to be headed toward a place of importance in the State.
