Niagara Peak
Nature
Niagara Peak is a 13,812-foot summit in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, within the Rocky Mountain system. Standing on the Continental Divide about 8.9 miles northeast by east of Silverton, it marks the boundary between Hinsdale and San Juan counties. The mountain is one of Colorado’s thirteeners, peaks rising above 13,000 feet. Its elevation creates an alpine climate marked by cold, snowy winters, cool to warm summers, year-round precipitation, summer thunderstorms, and a drier late spring. Set in one of the San Juans’ most rugged and elevated areas, Niagara Peak is chiefly recognized as a prominent high summit within Colorado’s mountain landscape.
