Blackmon Peak, also spelled Blackman Peak, is a 10,302-foot mountain in Idaho’s White Cloud Mountains within the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. Lying about 2.11 miles from the higher Castle Peak, its line parent, it is one of the named summits of the White Clouds. The peak’s name preserves the memory of George Blackmon, born in 1854, a freed slave who became a mining pioneer. That association gives the mountain historical meaning beyond its rugged setting, tying it to the people who moved through Idaho’s mining country as well as to the landscape itself.
