Barrclashcame is a 772-metre mountain in County Mayo’s Sheeffry Hills and the highest peak in that range. Its name derives from the Irish Barr Chlais Céim, meaning “top of Clais Céim,” and its present form comes from the townland of Clashcame, where the summit stands. Nearby rises include Barrclashcame Northwest, or Storikeennageer, and Tievummera. From its slopes and summit, Barrclashcame overlooks Doo Lough and Glenummera, which separate the Sheeffry Hills from the higher ground of Mweelrea and Ben Gorm. Its importance lies not only in its height but in its role as the chief summit of the Sheeffry Hills and a defining feature of the surrounding landscape.
