Leenaun Hill is a 618-metre mountain in Galway at the northeastern end of the Maumturks above Leenaun village and Killary Harbour. Known in Irish as An Meall Dubh, or “black knoll,” it forms a broad massif divided from the main Maumturks spine by the deep Col of Despondency. Unlike the sharper quartzite ridges farther south, it is made of sandstone and siltstone, giving it a grassier, boggier character. Its ridge includes subsidiary tops such as Meall Cheo, a far north-west top, and Búcán. Though less dramatic for climbers, it is valued for views over Killary Harbour and the Mweelrea mountains and features in walking routes and the Maamturks Challenge.
