A Presbyterian church was organized here in 1766 by the Reverend Arichibald Simpson, a minister from Scotland, and was incorporated on December 17, 1808. The church was served by the Reverends Simpson, Edward Palmer, and J.B. Van Dyke. Its cemetery contains the graves of early Scotch-Irish settlers.
