Pine Valley Mountain Wilderness is a 50,232-acre wilderness area in Utah’s Dixie National Forest that protects the Pine Valley Mountains and the Pine Valley Laccolith, one of the largest laccoliths in the United States. Rising sharply from the surrounding desert to 10,365 feet at Signal Peak, it is Utah’s fourth-largest wilderness area entirely within the state. Its varied elevations support Engelmann spruce, bristlecone pine, subalpine fir, Douglas fir, limber pine, aspen, and numerous meadows. Its relative isolation fosters distinctive wildlife, including several mammal subspecies and sensitive species, while more than 151 miles of trails support hiking, camping, horseback riding, and wildlife watching.
