Ricks Spring in Logan Canyon, northeast Utah, is a karst spring fed by a broad underground water network rather than a deep artesian source. Named for Thomas E. Ricks, who helped document the canyon after settling Cache Valley in 1859, it lay along an early road built toward Bear Lake Valley that later became part of the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway on U.S. Route 89. Long a popular stop for visitors, the spring also became important to hydrogeologists, who confirmed in 1972 that Logan River water and other higher-elevation sources feed the system. Its limestone geology includes a small dry cave and a much larger submerged cave network.
