Logan Canyon
Nature
Logan Canyon is a major mountain passage in northern Utah through the Bear River Mountains, carrying U.S. Route 89 between Logan, Cache Valley, and Bear Lake Valley. The winding road climbs steeply to a high summit, making the canyon both an important transportation link and a popular recreation area. Its trails, river, side roads, and scenic overlooks support hiking, camping, fishing, rock climbing, snowmobiling, and skiing, including access to Tony Grove Lake and Beaver Mountain. Designated a National Scenic Byway, the canyon is prized for its scenery and access, but its steep terrain, winter hazards, and heavy use have also fueled debate over road improvements and safety.
