James R. Rosemond, born February 1, 1819, and died August 5, 1902, was a Methodist founder and organizer who devoted his life to advancing Methodism throughout the Piedmont area. During his pastorate from 1866 to 1869 in Greenville County, churches built under his leadership included Mt. Zion, Mt. Moriah, St. Marks, Laurel Creek, Golden Grove, St. Paul, John Wesley, St. Matthews, Mt. Olivet, and Wesley Chapel. From 1869 to 1900, churches built under his pastorate included Moses Chapel, Mt Sinai, St. Luke, Mt. Carmel, Fork Church, St. John, Jenkins Chapel, and Bethel II. In York County they included Yorkville Church, New Hope, Harmony Grove, St. James, Hopewell, Green Pond, Bethel Church, Cedar Grove, Stooping Pine, and St. Matthews. In Spartanburg County they included Silver Hill, Allen Chapel, Parker School House, Sardis Chapel, Union Grove in N.C., Pine Grove, Holly Springs, Wesley Chapel, Dunton Chapel, and a church at Pendleton. In Anderson County they included Thompson Centennial, the church at Belton, Bethel in Williamston, and Moses Chapel. In Pickens County they included Pickens Chapel and Old Pickens Chapel. In Oconee County they included Reedsville Church, Fairfield, Bethel Grove, a church at Seneca, St. Stephens, Bethlehem, and a church at Walhalla.
