Center Turnpike, chartered in 1800, used a toll schedule on the Midd. Woodstock Stagecoach Road that charged 56 cents for four-wheel pleasure carriages drawn by two horses, 10 cents for each additional horse, 30 cents for two-wheel pleasure carriages drawn by one horse, 9 cents for each additional horse, 25 cents for carts and wagons drawn by two oxen or horses, 2 cents for each additional ox or horse, 12 cents for sleds and sleighs drawn by two oxen or horses, 2 cents for each additional ox or horse, 8 cents for a man and horse, 2 cents for a person on foot, 2 1/2 cents each for horses led or driven in groups of 10 or under and 1 cent each for more than 10, 2 cents each for cattle in droves of 10 or under and 1 cent each for more than 10, and for sheep and swine, 1/2 cent each for 12 or under and 3 cents a dozen for more than 12.
