Rutland's Civil War monument records the battlefields of Antietam, Wilderness, Kingston, Whitehall, Roanoke, Goldsboro, Newbern, and Vicksburg and was erected in 1879. It names men from Rutland and their units on its south, west, and east faces, and on its north face lists additional soldiers not credited to Rutland, including men serving in various companies, regiments, battalions, heavy artillery, cavalry, and a surgeon.
