Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary in Princeton, Massachusetts, is a 1,135-acre preserve owned by the Massachusetts Audubon Society that blends conservation, habitat diversity, and public access. Centered on a former farmstead, it includes managed woodlands, wetlands, open meadows, a nature center, a large pond, and an extensive trail system. The sanctuary began taking shape in 1956 when Charles T. Crocker III donated 600 acres and several buildings to Mass Audubon, forming the foundation of one of the society’s larger central Massachusetts sanctuaries. Known especially for birding and hawk watching, it also supports environmental education through year-round programs, seasonal events, and summer camp.
