Wachusett Mountain State Reservation is a 3,000-acre protected area in Massachusetts centered on the summit of Mount Wachusett, with broad views across New England that reach Mount Monadnock, Mount Greylock, southern Vermont, and Boston. It is especially valued for pairing easy access to the summit with extensive recreation, including a seasonal automobile road and 17 miles of hiking and walking trails, among them part of the Midstate Trail. The summit section also preserves one of Massachusetts’s only remaining old-growth forests, adding ecological significance. On the northern slopes, a privately operated ski area occupies a 450-acre lease parcel within the reservation.
