Mount Catherine is a peak in Washington’s Cascade Range near Snoqualmie Pass and Keechelus Lake, long valued as a popular outing in the pass area. Outside winter, it is reached by Forest Road 9070. In snow season, the Nordic Pass snowshoe trail begins near the Summit East ski area, formerly called Hyak, and leads to a low point on the mountain’s west ridge, from which winter climbers often continue to the summit. Mount Catherine stands in the marine west coast climate of the western Cascades, where Pacific weather systems bring abundant precipitation, especially heavy, wet winter snow that can heighten avalanche danger.
