Doubletop Mountain
Nature
Doubletop Mountain, a twin-peaked mountain in Baxter State Park, Maine, stands in the watershed of Nesowadnehunk Stream and is known for its paired summits, with the north peak slightly higher than the south. Its name reflects that two-part profile, while older recorded names preserve part of its cultural history through Indigenous terms and an 1828 Survey of Maine variation. Hikers can approach from Nesowednehunk Campground or Foster Field, with routes leading to summits that differ in character: the north peak is wooded and the south more open. A bronze tablet beneath the north peak also honors Fanny Hall, the first American woman to serve as foreman of a grand jury.
