Mount Ellsworth
Nature
Mount Ellsworth, in the Lewis Range of Glacier National Park in Montana, rises to 8,586 feet in the park’s southeastern section and can be seen from Two Medicine Lake and nearby country. It was named for “Billy” Ellsworth, an old-timer who worked as a packer for the U.S. Geological Survey. The mountain’s name preserves the practical, field-based work that supported the region’s early surveying and mapping, linking a prominent landscape feature to the labor behind understanding and charting this part of the park.
