Race Point Light was established on November 5, 1816. A fog bell was installed in 1852. In 1876, the present lighthouse, fog signal building, oil house, and a keeper's house were built, and a steam fog whistle was installed. The keeper's house was added on to about 1900. Electricity was installed in 1957, and the light station was automated and left unmanned in 1972. The present solar light and fog signal were installed in 1994. The height of the main light above water is 41 feet. The maximum keeper's salary was $333 until 1876 and $600 until 1939.
