Benbaun
Nature
Benbaun, or Binn Bhán, is a mountain in Connemara in western Ireland and the highest summit in the Twelve Bens at 729 metres. In Connemara National Park, it forms the central high point of the range’s core massif and is County Galway’s highest mountain. Its Irish name, meaning “white peak,” has been linked to quartzite near the summit. Benbaun stands on a long east-west ridge, divided from nearby massifs by deep passes and overlooking the glaciated valleys of Gleninagh and the Owenglin. Its prominence of 684 metres makes it both a P600 and a Marilyn, marking it as one of Ireland’s most distinct mountains.
