From 1991 until his passing, Steve spent 32 years serving the Smithfield Blue Sox, earning the love and respect of players, managers, and fans through his passion for baseball and his dedication to the team. In his early years, he prepared the field, packed equipment for each game, served on the board of directors, and worked as Richard's right-hand man. Later, he focused on scorekeeping and advertising and fundraising for the team, serving as its lead fundraiser for more than 25 years. When a game was being played at the park in Smithfield and the scoreboard was on, Steve was in the crow's nest. He loved the Blue Sox and rarely missed a game, home or away, believing that if he was absent there was a chance the scoreboard could be wrong. He is remembered as a legend for his friendship and service to the players, fans, and Smithfield Blue Sox baseball organization.
