Upper Burro Creek Wilderness is a 27,440-acre protected area in northwestern Arizona spanning Yavapai and Mohave counties. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, it preserves much of the upper Burro Creek drainage and surrounding desert uplands. Its most important feature is Burro Creek, one of the few perennial streams still flowing undammed into Arizona’s lower desert, with about 13 miles passing through the wilderness. The creek has cut a deep bedrock channel amid side canyons, steep basalt mesas, and desert grassland. This rare combination of permanent water and rugged terrain supports unusually rich wildlife and makes the area important for backcountry recreation and ecological protection.
