Stephens' Brigade of Cheatham's 2d Division, Polk's Corps, Army of the Mississippi, included the 7th Kentucky, 9th Tennessee, 6th Tennessee, Battalion 1st Tennessee, and Smith's Mississippi Battery. With its regiments aligned from left to right in that order and the battery in rear, the brigade bivouacked at this place on Saturday night, April 5, 1862. At about 7 A.M. Sunday morning, the 1st Tennessee was detached to the right to guard a ford on Lick Creek. The remainder of the brigade moved forward along the Pittsburg Road and became engaged at Hornets' Nest.
