The Downtown Claremore Historic District encompasses portions of five blocks centered on Will Rogers Boulevard. Founded in the 1880s, its buildings reflect the commercial growth of the community, a growth spurred by access to two major railroads that were instrumental in building a strong farming and ranching community, by the famous U.S. Route 66, and by “radium” well water that supported the bath house industry. The Will Rogers Hotel, named after the internationally known humorist Will Rogers, a native of the city, was the town's most famous bath house and attracted the social elite, tourists, and those seeking personal rejuvenation. The district includes commercial style architecture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, along with notable examples of Moderne, Classical Revival, Queen Anne, and Spanish Colonial Revival.
