Turtle River State Park in eastern North Dakota lies on the Turtle River about two miles north of Arvilla and covers 775 acres. Established in 1934 during the New Deal, it was shaped early by Civilian Conservation Corps crews, who built bridges, roads, footpaths, and stone and log buildings that gave the park much of its character. One of those early structures, a bathhouse, was later converted into the CCC Memorial Picnic Shelter and remains in use. The park continues to serve as a year-round recreation area, offering camping, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing.
