Mount Spickard is a remote, highly prominent summit in Washington’s far northern North Cascades, near the Canada-U.S. border in North Cascades National Park. Built mainly of gneiss, it forms an important drainage divide between waters flowing toward the Skagit River system and the Fraser basin. Its steep rise, glaciers, and connecting ridges link it to several rugged neighboring peaks and help make it one of the state’s most notable mountains. Geologist Reginald A. Daly highlighted the area’s inaccessibility in the early 1900s, and climbers soon pursued the peak, with the first recorded ascent in 1904. Renamed in 1963, it honors climber Dr. Warren J. Spickard Jr.
