Oracle State Park in the northeastern foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains preserves 3,948 acres as both a public park and wildlife refuge, with hiking trails including part of the Arizona Trail. The land grew from the Kannally family ranch, begun in 1902 and later reduced from its peak size before the remaining property passed to conservation and then to Arizona for a refuge in 1986. At its center stands the historic Kannally Ranch House, built between 1929 and 1933 and now used as a museum and park headquarters. The park also supports desert grassland habitat, environmental education, and since 2014 has been recognized as a Dark Sky Park.
