Jepson Peak is a summit in Southern California's San Gorgonio Wilderness, 1.2 miles west of San Gorgonio Mountain. It is often cited as the region's second highest summit, but many authors do not consider it an independent peak because it has less than 300 feet of prominence. Named for University of California botanist and Sierra Club charter member Willis Linn Jepson, it occupies an unusual place in mountain classification: its high elevation gives it prominence in rankings, yet its limited topographic separation from nearby San Gorgonio often leads to it being treated as a subsidiary summit rather than a distinct mountain.
