San Gorgonio Wilderness
Nature

San Gorgonio Wilderness is a protected area in Southern California’s eastern San Bernardino Mountains, stretching from north of San Gorgonio Pass across San Bernardino County into northern Riverside County. Its terrain climbs sharply from foothills and canyons to rugged high country, including Mount San Gorgonio and other peaks above 10,000 feet, with elevations ranging from about 2,300 to 11,502 feet. This large change in altitude creates a notable transition among desert, coastal, and mountain environments and their vegetation. Designated by Congress in 1964, the wilderness expanded in 1984 and 1994, and since 2016 it has been part of Sand to Snow National Monument under joint federal management.
