Courthouse Butte is a prominent red-rock landmark in northern Arizona near Sedona and the Village of Oak Creek, rising 5,454 feet beside Bell Rock in the Verde Valley. Formed from horizontally bedded sedimentary rock in the Permian Supai Formation, it has a tiered, blocklike profile that makes it one of the area’s most recognizable natural features. The butte anchors a popular recreation area with trails for hiking, biking, and running, including a 4.5-mile route from the North Bell Rock Trailhead. It also attracts climbers on routes from 5.6 to 5.11+, with its first recorded ascent dating to the early 1900s.
