Munds Mountain Wilderness
Nature
Munds Mountain Wilderness is a protected area in Coconino National Forest in northern Arizona, just southeast of Sedona between Arizona State Route 179 and Interstate 17. Covering 18,150 acres, it is known for trails that rise from the Oak Creek country to wide overlooks above Sedona’s red-rock landscape. The Hot Loop Trail crosses Horse Mesa with views toward Bell Rock, Courthouse Butte, Sycamore Pass, and Woods Canyon, while Jacks Canyon Trail links to the steeper Munds Mountain Trail. The wilderness also supports plant and animal life that changes with elevation, combining high-desert scenery, hiking, and protected habitat.
