Two Nuns is a pair of 5,140-foot sandstone summits south of Sedona in Coconino National Forest, part of the Schnebly Hill Formation. Rising steeply about 740 feet above Little Horse Park in just 0.2 mile, their narrow spires make them a prominent feature of Sedona’s red-rock scenery. The formation’s name remains unsettled, with several alternatives used for the towers, and the northern summit is also called Beckey’s Spire after Fred Beckey’s first ascent in 1970. Later climbing routes were established on both summits in the early 1970s, and climbers in the area also face a semi-arid climate shaped by late-summer monsoon storms.
