Ruben Sierra combined speed and power to become one of the major leagues' top players in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He is the Rangers' all-time leader with 44 triples and ranks in the top ten with 645 runs, 1281 hits, 180 home runs, 742 RBI, 481 extra base hits, and 2166 total bases in 1190 games. He had five seasons with 20 or more homers, drove in over 100 runs three times, and scored 100 runs twice. He was The Sporting News A.L. Player of the Year in 1989, when he led the league with 14 triples, 119 RBI, 344 total bases, 78 extra base hits, and a .543 slugging percentage, all club records at the time. He earned four Rangers Player of the Year awards over five seasons from 1987 to 1991, appearing in at least 156 games each year. He played in three All-Star Games and homered in the 1992 Mid-Summer Classic. He hit 23 homers in his return to the Rangers in 2001 to earn A.L. Comeback Player of the Year honors. A native of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, he was originally signed by the Rangers in November 1982 and made his major league debut at age 20 in 1986. Sierra finished with the sixth-highest home run total ever for a switch-hitter at 306 and batted .268 with 1322 RBI in a 20-year career with nine teams.
