John Wetteland, a right-handed pitcher, became the Rangers' all-time leader with 150 saves after coming to Texas as a free agent following his selection as the 1996 World Series MVP. In four seasons with the Rangers, he posted a 20-12 record with a 2.95 ERA in 248 relief appearances and set then-club records with 42 saves in 1998 and 43 in 1999. He recorded his 300th career save in May 2000, becoming the 12th pitcher to reach that mark, and had 295 saves in the 1990s, the most of any reliever in that decade. He compiled 330 career saves, ranking among baseball's all-time leaders, recorded 30 or more saves in a season eight times, including four seasons of 40 or more, was selected to three All-Star games, two with the Rangers, and pitched for the Dodgers, Expos, Yankees, and Rangers before his induction into the Texas Rangers Baseball Hall of Fame on August 5, 2005.
