Nolan Ryan, a Texas legend, made a lasting impact on the Rangers in his five years with the club. At age 42 in 1989, he led the majors with a team-record 301 strikeouts, took five no-hitters into the eighth inning or later, and became the first pitcher in history to record 5,000 strikeouts. The following season, he led the American League in strikeouts, pitched his sixth no-hitter, and became the twentieth individual to post 300 career wins. In 129 starts with Texas, he won 51 games and struck out 939 batters in 840 innings. He holds all-time Major League records with 5,714 strikeouts and seven no-hitters, and earned 324 victories across an unprecedented 27 Major League seasons with the Mets, Angels, Astros, and Rangers. He was the first Ranger to have his number retired and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999.
