Melcher Covered Bridge, built in 1896 by Joseph J. Daniels over Leatherwood Creek east of Montezuma, Indiana, is a single-span Burr Arch Truss listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978. Its alternate names reflect nearby rail, industry, and community life: Melcher Station, the Marion Brick Company, and Klondyke. The bridge likely improved road access to Montezuma near important railroad crossings. Though Daniels built it, its portals were later altered and no longer show his trademark arches. Its original shale and limestone abutments also changed when cement was added around surviving stone. The bridge remains a notable example of Parke County’s covered bridge heritage.
