Pollux Temple is a 6,251-foot summit in the Grand Canyon of northern Arizona, about ten miles northwest of Grand Canyon Village. Rising as an isolated mass above surrounding drainages, it stands out for its steep relief, climbing nearly 4,000 feet above the Colorado River in less than two miles. Runoff drains north through Agate and Sapphire Canyons. Its name reflects Clarence Dutton’s tradition of giving Grand Canyon landmarks names from mythology, in this case Pollux, the divine son of Zeus, paired with nearby Castor Temple. The summit and slopes also reveal the canyon’s layered geology, from Permian formations and Coconino Sandstone down to Vishnu Basement Rocks at river level.
