Nature
Larch Mountain, a three thousand four hundred eighty-foot peak in Clark County, Washington, is the county’s highest free-standing mountain and rises within the Yacolt Burn State Forest. Its modern landscape was heavily shaped by disaster in September nineteen oh two, when a major forest fire scorched its eastern flank and a massive rockslide left that side largely unvegetated. The surrounding forest still reflects those events, and the area has become closely associated with forest management and fire control. Today, part of the mountain lies within the Jones Creek Off-Road Vehicle recreation area, and the summit picnic area offers broad views west toward Vancouver and east to Silver Star.
