Big Frog Wilderness is a protected wilderness area in southeastern Tennessee with a small extension into Georgia. Designated in 1984 as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System and managed by the United States Forest Service, it covers 8,082 acres, with nearly all of it in Tennessee’s Cherokee National Forest and a much smaller portion in Georgia’s Chattahoochee National Forest. Its highest point is Big Frog Mountain at 4,224 feet in Tennessee. Though not especially high for the region, the mountain stands prominently enough to dominate the landscape. The wilderness also borders Georgia’s Cohutta Wilderness, and its Georgia section is that state’s smallest wilderness area.
