This memorial honors all marines, Fleet Marine Force corpsmen, and chaplains whose dedication, patriotism, and self-sacrifice helped to ensure freedom for all, and invokes peace for their rest alongside the words, "Uncommon valor was a common virtue," attributed to Adm. Chester A. Nimitz on March 16, 1945.
