The Zacke Cox Covered Bridge, east of Mecca, Indiana, is a historic covered road bridge built in 1908 by Joseph A. Britton. A single-span Burr Arch Truss, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Its name comes from Zachariah M. Cox, born in 1857 in nearby Coloma, whose family was prominent locally and owned nearly 1,000 acres near the bridge. Architecturally, it differs from more typical Britton bridges by using a semi-arched opening instead of the traditional Britton portal, resembling Hendricks-style portals. Its setting also reflects the area’s industrial past, with nearby clay, coal, and slate features.
